At The Orwell Hotel on a Monday evening, Felixstowe Community Choir members are busy rehearsing for appearances in this, their 10th anniversary year.
On Saturday 7th May they will sing well-known songs at the Friends of Felixstowe Library coffee morning. This is the postponed appearance when Covid scuppered the Christmas coffee morning. The choir decided not to sing their original set of Christmas songs!!
On Thursday 2nd June the choir will sing the Commonwealth Song at Landguard Point when Felixstowe Town Council hosts the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon. Especially composed for the occasion, choirs of all types plan to sing the same song at their own countries’ celebrations of the Platinum Jubilee.
Two days later, Felixstowe Community Choir will join local soprano Christine Johnson, at Wherstead Park, as we celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend in style, at a ‘Best of British’ Afternoon Proms concert. We have our flags ready for Land of Hope and Glory, and Jerusalem.
It’s going to be a busy summer!
If you would like to join the choir, we meet on a Monday evening at The Orwell Hotel 7.30-9.30pm and the cost is £5 a night. No experience is necessary, there is no audition and you don't need to read music. An informal mixed choir of men and women over 18, we sing show and film songs, pop and folk, learn harmonies... and sing and laugh with our Music Coach, Emily Bennett.
