Once again, a Felixstowe choir has made donations to charities chosen by their members.
The charities, who received £1,000 each, were the John Le Vay Cancer Information Centre at Ipswich hospital, the Memory Lane Dementia Support Group and the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity. The cheques were presented at the choir’s recent Family and Friends Concert, at the Orwell Hotel, Felixstowe.
“We are a non-profit-making choir, run by volunteers, so any surplus funds are given to charity,” explained choir founder, Rachel Sloane. “When our members choose a small local charity, our donation make a real difference to their work and it is good to see their delight at receiving an unexpected £1,000. Now members have to decide which charities to support next.”
Since they were formed, six years ago, Felixstowe Community Choir has given £27,000 to charity, as well as appearing in many fundraising concerts and events.
Felixstowe Community Choir meets at the Orwell Hotel on Monday evenings throughout the year (including Bank Holidays) and anyone over 18 is welcome to attend. Singers pay £4 per week, and there is the charity raffle. The choir sings mainly show tunes and pop songs. There are usually around eighty men and women attending, led by professional musician, Emily Bennett.
