At their recent Family and Friends evening, Felixstowe Community Choir presented cheques totalling £2,400 to four charities, bringing the total they have donated to £40,900. The choir has also sung at charity fundraising events in Ipswich and Felixstowe.
To accept the cheques, representatives from the charities included Mark Murphy (Cancer Support Suffolk), Liss Coates, Kayleigh Clements and Jules Gallini (Pushchair Pitstop), Dick Daniels and Nick Barrett White (Felixstowe National Coastwatch) and Gill Mason (The Cinnamon Trust).
All the charities were thrilled with the donations, with Mark Murphy saying their £600 would go to their latest project helping young people with cancer. Jill Mason explained that The Cinnamon Trust helped pet-owners in need, especially the ill or elderly who are worried about their much loved pets. The money will be used at the Pushchair Pitstop to buy items such as powdered milk for babies.
“What a fabulous evening!! I came home buzzing from the wonderful singing of the choir,” said Nick Barrett White, Station Manager for Felixstowe Coastwatch. “We are in a year where we are going to have to look at replacing some of our camera equipment, vital to the work we do in keeping everyone safe, in and next to the sea. Your fabulous donation will help greatly towards that.”
Each year charities are nominated and voted on by members, using money raised from the weekly choir raffle, organised by Maureen Weeks, and choir profits. The raffle held on the night of the concert raised over £400 towards the choir’s 2025/6 charity fund.
If you like singing and laughing, Felixstowe Community Choir, an adult mixed choir, always welcomes new members on Monday evenings at 7.30 at the Orwell Hotel. Members pay £5 on the door and sing to live music, have no auditions, have no sheet music or special clothes to buy. Led by Music Coach, Emily Bennett, it is for anyone who loves singing – especially pop and show tunes.
