Around 80 of the members of Felixstowe Community Choir have voted for the charities the choir will be supporting in the next few months.
"We decided to support two charities, one in Felixstowe and one in Suffolk or further afield," explained choir founder Rachel Sloane. "Members nominated their favourite charities and then voted on which of the sixteen we should donate the proceeds of our weekly and concert raffles to."
The winning charities were Hope Trust which supports lonely older people in Felixstowe and St Elizabeth Hospice which provides care in East Suffolk and South Norfolk.
"We are delighted to be chosen by Felixstowe Community Choir as one of their charities as any support is gratefully received," said a delighted Paul Taylor, from Hope Trust. "A donation of just two hundred pounds would pay for four coffee-and-chat sessions and four keep fit sessions for lonely older people in the Felixstowe area."
St Elizabeth Hospice provides support to scores of people in Felixstowe each year and relies on fundraising to meet the majority of its £8.7m annual running costs.
Emily Sheridan, St Elizabeth Hospice’s community fundraiser, said: "We are so pleased to have been chosen to benefit from the support of Felixstowe Community Choir. Any money raised will make a huge difference in helping us grow local hospice care for local people, so thank you!"
The choir is holding a “Casual Concert” for family and friends at the end of March and the proceeds of the raffle that day will also go into the charity fund.
